Beeswax is the material that honey bees produce to make a comb for storing honey and pollen and for rearing their brood.
Honeybees have been doing this in the wild rather than in our apiaries for millions of years.
Beeswax has been a commodity of trade for a thousand years or more and one of the Guilds of the City of London, namely The Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers, was known to control the import of beeswax from the continent of Europe since 1330.
In Medieval times, beeswax was an important material for sealing correspondence, the manufacture of candles for use in churches and great houses, and for making creams for medical purposes.
